Geek out your pad – 10 items that add Geek Appeal to your home
No longer is being a geek a bad thing. If you aren’t a geek, chances are you work for one, depend on one, or have lost your girlfriend to one. Geek is more than a stereotype, it’s a lifestyle. It’s time to join the winning side my friend, and these are some items for you home that will help you with that.
Electronics
Nothing screams geek more than electronics, and the more complicated or retro the better.
Arcade Game Machine, $5,995 – What’s better than a Video Arcade Game Machine? One that has 80 Classic Atari Games preloaded on it. I know it’s expensive, but this baby here can also play other Windows-based games, surf the internet, and plays MP3s and DVDs. It features a 33" arcade monitore and a 4-player custom control panel. - Logitech Touchscreen Remote, $499 – Geeks are all about being able to control everything from one place, and that’s just what you can do with this remote. It has a touchscreen LCD display and can operate up to 15 components via IR or RF, anything from CD players to ceiling fans.
Furniture
You can never be too geeky, but some of this furniture is sure to boost your geek-o-meter.
- Aeron Chair, $1,000-$1,300 – Your visitors will certainly know you are a geek when you have to explain how to operate your furniture. These desk chairs are not only some of the most comfortable that you can buy, but they look like something out of a Star Wars movie (an added geek bonus).
- Original NES Chair, $40 – For you DIY geek wannabes, this chair could be your ultimate masterpiece. Though it’s not much in the way of comfort, the NES chair will definitely impress. Who said art had to be comfortable anyways?
- Binary Clock, $19.99 – How many times have you been asked "What time is it?" Well, with this clock you can expect that a little more often. The Binary Clock uses LED to indicate time in either a "Power of Two" mode, or a "True" binary mode. After all, binary is the official language of geeks (right next to Klingon).
Kitchen
A geek home must also have a geek kitchen. Nevermind the fact that the only time you visit you kitchen is to start up the microwave. These kitchen gadgets are sure to impress your geeky girlfriends though.
- LED Faucet Lights, $14.99 – This contraption functions as an indicator of water temperature. The LEDs make the water appear to change colors as the temperature changes. Blue means cold, and red means hot (no surprises there). Aside from functionally warning you when the water could be scalding hot, it looks friggin’ awesome.
- R2-D2 Peppermill, $19.99 – A geek just can’t go wrong with Star Wars, and this is another example of that. This peppermill should be at the center of every geek table. Don’t like pepper? Who cares?
- Pac-Man Magnet Set, $7.99 – Refrigerator decorations (or the lack of) can reveal alot about a person. A geek should use this opportunity to make a statement. Now you can be reminded of the wonder years every time you go to take a drink of milk (from the jug, might I add).
Other
- iRobot Roomba Red Vacuum, $149 – The Roomba is one of the first robots to make its way into the homes of millions. What geek has time to vacuum anyway? A geek’s time is better spent on games and computers. No, iRobot is not made by Apple.
- Anything LEGO, $15 to $80 – LEGOs are another example of something that you can’t go wrong with. A geek will always want to take things apart and put them back together, and they’ve been doing this with LEGOs for two generations.
Though being a geek is not as easy as buying a few props, the items that I’ve listed will surely give you some much needed "geek cred" to invite some geek friends over.

I bought an Aeron just two weeks ago from http://www.OfficeDesigns.com. If being extremely comfortable at my desk makes me a geek then I’ll take it. This chair is incredible. And their product specialists explained all the different adjustments so it’s not so tough to operate.
