Red Hat & Ubuntu Linux as popular as free pancakes at IHOP

Red Hat & Ubuntu Linux as popular as free pancakes at IHOP The Ubuntu and Red Hat Linux distros have historically focused on usability and a recent survey confirms that they stand out amongst their Linux peers. People swarm to those distros because they’re simple and compelling, just like a hot, steamy, free pancake from IHOP.

“Ubuntu and Red Hat are the most used Linux distributions among the 35,000 members of content-management vendor Alfresco’s community, the company found in its second survey of trends in enterprise open-source software usage,” according to The Washington Post.

Specifically, “among Linux operating systems, usage of Ubuntu and Red Hat stood at 35 percent and 23 percent, respectively . . .”

And while Ubuntu and Red Hat Linux continue to attract users with their rock bottom price point, user friendly interface and developer community hubs, IHOP is doing much the same by offering free pancakes.

IHOP is offering “each guest a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes. In return IHOP will ask guests to donate what they would have paid for the pancakes or more to Children’s Miracle Network or other local charities,” according to Fox Business.

So while eating your free short stack and donating to a good cause, remember that Linux works in much the same way. The operating system is open source and free, but it can only continue to grow and evolve with support from its users.

- IHOP served 1.1 million free pancakes on National Pancake Day last year.
- All of the free pancakes served on National Pancake Day would create a stack more than eight miles high.
- Pancake lovers donated more than $625,000 to children’s charities, far exceeding the fundraising goal.
