Unofficial: Netflix streaming coming to PS3 and Xbox 360
By Danny Mendez
A Netflix customer reports the company is emailing surveys announcing Netflix’s move to stream video to both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.
Though unconfirmed by an official source, the post on Seanbajuice lines up with previous reports regarding Netflix’s desire to expand to game consoles. During the Netflix Q3 2007 Earnings Call, Netflix boss Reed Hastings had the following to say:
"In terms of enabling the viewing of online content on the television screen, we are exploring a variety of options, including Internet connected, high definition DVD players, Internet connected game consoles, and dedicated Internet set tops, with a variety of partners, trying to understand the best ways to provide inexpensive viewing of online content on the television."
Though this was good news for gamers hoping to use Netflix’s Watch Now feature via their expensive, next-gen consoles, they were left in dark as to if — or when — it would happen.
According to Seanbajuice, other customers have confirmed receiving the email, which asks patrons to participate in a survey that includes the following details for the PS3.
"Now you can watch movies from Netflix instantly by using your Internet-connected Playstation 3. Simply insert a special Netflix disc into your PS/3 to enable instant movie streaming. The disc is available from Netflix for a one-time fee of $3."
We’re unsure how such a system would work, but our speculation suggests the disc will "play" a program — the same way it would with a game — that would stream video from the Netflix Watch Now database. The survey also includes details for streaming to the Xbox 360, which will work through Xbox Live.
Now that we’ve gone this far, how about Netflix streaming to the PSP? Hey, we’ve got to ask — part of a blogger’s job is to push the industry to greater heights. So how about it, Netflix? Sony?
Finally, check out a screenshot of the PS3 section in the survey below.

I would think it would be easier for MS since netflix only supports some sort of DRM.
