I would say SONY knew, even when they called it a "stalemate" last year. They made a deal with Toshiba to build cheaper Blu Ray drives and PS3's in early 2007. Toshiba would do the builds and SONY saved more $, passing on some of the savings to the consumer via price cuts (on the PS3). The sales for movies on HD DVD were just so mediocre, that I would bet everyone involved with the formats knew that Toshiba would be the "loser" of this whole thing. Warners decision was more than just an educated guess. The December #'s for drives, and movies sold go well beyond that decision. I'm still shocked that some are calling for HD-DVD to stay put. It's got to go. It's time to move on. To Orion:

I think that best buy and netflix also know. Toshiba is leting commpenies know so that the don't look stpid. i just wonder what sony thinks of all of thes.
