By Ken Mitchell

LEGO unveils new Star Wars pieces and more for its 50th anniversaryCelebrating the 50th anniversary of the LEGO block, The LEGO Group plans to keep its momentum going by adding new figures and pieces to existing sets as well as new sets all together.

LEGO, the top dog of construction toys in the world, will show off 135 new products at the annual American International Toy Fair in New York City Feb 17-21. This has been a year of milestones for the toy giant, including the 50th anniversary of the original LEGO block, 30th anniversary of the LEGO minifigure, and the 10th anniversary of both the LEGO Mindstorms and the First LEGO League.

“Our 2008 product line is broad and exciting, while staying balanced between classic themes and licenses, and will capitalize on the market momentum we have gained,” said Soren Torp Laursen, president LEGO Americas. “New Indiana Jones and Speed Racer licenses add to the proven and continuing success of our licensed lines such as Star Wars, while new LEGO Agents joins classics like City, Castle and BIONICLE, to round out a portfolio that will inspire builders of all ages.”

Among the toys to be revealed are new vehicles for the classic Star Wars sets, eight new Indiana Jones sets, and four “build-and-race” Speed Racer kits. LEGO is also offering two new sets for pre-schoolers called LEGO Duplo Dino, and LEGO Duplo Thomas & Friends.

With all these new products, we are still patiently awaiting the “Monty Python” set and the “Google Computer Case Mod” set.

I found a really cool Legos watch that would have been great to wear at the celebration, but as it turns out I didn’t go… Fun watch though! http://www.zipwatches.com. Go LEGOS!
