Facebook introduces clutter-reducing tabs to user profiles

Facebook introduces clutter-reducing tabs to user profilesOk — everyone and their grandmas have a Facebook account nowadays, and many of those accounts have become cluttered with applications, bumper stickers and the like. Dare I say that Facebook was approaching dangerous MySpace-like waters? The good folks at Facebook might have realized the error in their approach, because Facebook will be adding tabs to user profiles to relieve all the clutter and nonsense.

Don’t everyone log into Facebook at once to see your shiny new profiles, as the changes haven’t gone into effect yet. However, according to TechCruch, they’re being prepared now for an imminent debut on the red carpet.

Users profiles will soon show three tabs at the top: Wall, About, and Photos. Photos seems like a fairly self-explanatory subject. The about section seems to include all the original Facebook profile stuff, and the Wall seems to be a sort of hybrid of a user’s wall and personal feed.

Here are a few pics showing the upcoming changes from TechCrunch:

Facebook Update 2

Frankly, I see the new Facebook update as the best possible next step towards advancing the simplicity of Facebook; I was none too thrilled to learn of the applications that started flooding profiles a while back, and to this day I disdain having to scroll endlessly, like I’m caught in limbo, trying to get to the bottom of someone’s profile.

The only thing I find curious is that the a user’s wall and personal feed seem to meshed into one now; I suppose for the most dilligent of stalkers out there, integrating the wall to a user’s personal feed making keeping tabs (hehe) on them much easier and time-efficient. Happy Facebook prowling!

  1. Mike:

Completely changing the design of facebook in order to hide facebook’s original mistake of… becoming myspace 2… was not the correct route to take. Instead, they should have just reverted back to the OLD OLD OLD facebook where you could only join with a valid college email address, there were no applications, no mini feed, everything was on one page, and there was NO SPAM.

    Epic Fail.
