Goldman’s new Blu-Ray player runs price of a new car

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Blu-Ray player runs price of a new car Chances are good that you’re not willing to take out a loan to pay for a Blu-Ray player.  If that’s the case then this “new” player is not for you.  Swiss-based company Goldmand upgraded its Eidos 20 media player with a Blu-Ray drive.

It’s a mystery how the company justifies the $17,000 price tag; though it does try to explain the premium.

SlashGear claims the price is due to the fact that “you get the Swiss’s Finest AC-Curator power supply circuit and magnetic damping for ultimate sound and video reproduction with least amount of mechanical and electrical distortions.”

That sounds a lot like a disreputable car shop telling you that the hyper-flange is worn out and the whosit nozzles need replaced.

If you need the decision made for you, go buy the new car or do that home improvement contracting you’ve been putting off.  Paying $17,000 for a Blu-Ray player that (likely) has the very same components of a $600 player or the PS3 borders on insanity.

But if you’re Steve Jobs or Bill Gates and light the fireplace with bundles of $500 bills then sure, go for it.  It would still be a waste of money.
