Asus announces EeePC with 9-inch display
By Jonathan Schlaffer
It’s here just a little bit sooner than expected; the EeePC with a 9-inch display. If you liked the 7-inch model then you’ll love the 9-inch model. There isn’t much available in the way of specs yet, aside from the larger display.
From the looks of things, the 9-inch EeePC is just the bigger brother to the 7-inch model. It appears to have a slightly larger keyboard and battery life is said to be comparable to the 7-inch model; around 2.5 to 3 hours.
Hopefully with the bump in display size, there is also a bump in resolution; 800 x 480 is not enough to be useful. Engadget was there to (man)handle the unit but was not allowed to power it on. Asus is being secretive. Are they being secretive because the display is awesome? We’ll find out tomorrow.
There are also rumors that it is available with either an 8GB or 12GB SSD and 1GB of memory standard. They’ve got my attention. Let’s also hope (and pray) that the processor has been upgraded as well.
The 12GB model is said to cost €399 which translates to roughly $600. I hope it isn’t that much but with the EeePC 4G going for $400, it’s not outside the realm of possibility. It’s all going to hinge on the processor and display capabilities. An official announcement with more details is due from the company tomorrow.
For now, its only saying the unit will be available in the “middle” of 2008.
