10 practical uses for your camera phone

By Matt Jansen

image Now that camera phones are commonplace, here are some practical ways to use those tiny photographs in everyday life.

10. You’re at the store shopping for something a significant other asked you to pick up, but you’re not sure which flavor or model to get. Take a picture with your camera phone and MMS (multimedia message service) it to them. It will make both of you happier.

To avoid attention from the store security, make it look like you’re typing a text message or reading something on your camera phone.

9. When traveling, take pictures of maps at rest areas, in subways, or at the beginning of a wilderness trail. That way you’ll always have a reference for figuring out where you are.

8. After parking your vehicle, take picture of it with some landmarks in the background so you can find it again later. I’ve found this especially useful in larger cities where parking lots don’t have sections labeled.

7. In the case of an accident, take a picture of the damage on your car, the other car(s) and the surrounding environment. It could help support your case later.

6. Take a picture of something you’re about to disassemble. That way you’ll have a model to work from when you start to reconstruct it.

5. See a classified ad you’re interested in posted in a public space? It’s a perfect time to take a snapshot to reference later.

4. In a campground (assuming you’re able to keep your camera phone charged)? Take a picture of your camp site with the lot number so you can find it later.

3. At work when a white board is filled with a variety of diagrams and brainstorms, the last thing you’ll want to do is try to replicate that on a piece of paper, and writing “save me” above your work doesn’t always mean the next guy will leave it there. Take a snapshot with your camera phone.

2. Instead of gathering dozens of business cards for those you meet at a venue, use your camera phone and take a close-up snapshot of each one. That way you won’t lose a vital piece of contact information.

1. If you have a suspicious wife, husband, girlfriend or boyfriend and have to stay late at work, take a snapshot of yourself next to a clock and calendar, then MMS the photo to your sweetheart.

My number one is when i’m in the car, and a song is playing on Sirius, I take a picture of it(artist and title) so I can download it later, because i’d never be able to type it otherwise..

    2. Pat MacManus:

Best cameraphone idea I have seen is for parents of young children. Before you leave for a day out, snap a photo of your tyke in the clothes they are wearing. If you get separated you can show or share a current picture of them as they look that day.
