Circuit City allows HD-DVD player returns within 90 days

March 7, 2008

Circuit City allows HD-DVD player returns within 90 days Circuit City has the usual 30 day return policy on most products save for computers and TVs.  In an unusual move it has extended the return time for HD-DVD players from 30 days to 90 days.

It’s not clear if this is retroactive or valid on new purchases only.  If you purchased an HD-DVD player at Circuit City under the old 30 day return policy,  you might want to check to see if you’re covered under the new 90 day return policy.

That is to say, if you’ve bought an HD-DVD player before Blu-Ray was declared the winner of the format war, you might be able to return it.  The company was clear that this applied to HD-DVD players/hardware only, not movie discs.

SignOnSanDiego says some people will choose to keep their HD-DVD players to play an existing collection or to upscale DVDs.  Others will want to jump ship and move over to Blu-Ray.  Blu-Ray players are more than happy to upscale your DVDs as well.

At this point, ask yourself, is there any good reason to keep your HD-DVD player?  I think not.  Others should ask, is there any good reason to buy a new HD-DVD player at discount prices?  Again, probably not.

HD-DVD is dead and there’s no good reason to continue to support a dead format.

I disagree. At age 55, I’ll take a HD-DVD at a cut price. It will be some time before most of us older folk need a blue ray. Most of us can’t afford it anyway.Bring the sale on.
