ROM update enables GPS and Rev. A for Sprint Mogul
By Ken Mitchell
Sprint and HTC have finally rolled out a ROM update for the Taiwan made HTC Mogul that enables the built in GPS and Rev. A hardware, previously crippled by software.
The Mogul came hardware ready for both GPS and Rev. A, but was cripple by software for some reason. Owners have been waiting on a new update since first news back in November. One version leaked out and enabled GPS for the Mogul, but had some other issues. This official release is available for download from the HTC website.
After the ROM is applied, Mogul users can speed through the internetz at speeds up to 1.4 Mbps down and 500 Kbps up, a big step from the previous Rev. 0 40-50 Kbps upload capabilities. The Mogul can also be used as a modem for a laptop, enabling mobile data for traveling customers similar to a laptop aircard. Before the Mogul, laptop aircards were the only devices capable of Rev. A speeds, Sprint says.
The HTC Mogul ships with Windows Media 6.0 Professional Edition, and can be purchased for around the $200 mark with a two year service agreement. It’s equipped with a touch screen, full keyboard, thumb wheel, and five-way navigation button, and packs on a 2 megapixel camera and stereo bluetooth.
The Mogul can be used with the $99 “Simply Everything” rate plan.
