GoDaddy.com says RateMyCop.com exceeded bandwidth

By Ken Mitchell

GoDaddy.com says RateMyCop.com exceeded bandwidthGoDaddy.com has denied censoring RateMyCop.com, after the site was directed to an “Ooops” page. A GoDaddy.com representative has told TECH.BLORGE.com that “censorship had nothing to do with it.”

TECH.BLORGE.com reported the censorship allgeations earlier today. You can read that story here.

“Basically, he was paying for compact car, when he really needed a semi-truck,” says Elizabeth Driscoll, Vice President of Public Relations for GoDaddy.com. According to Driscoll, RateMyCop.com was on a shared server $14.99/month plan.

That specific rate plan does consist of 3000 GBs of transfer. However, it seems the issue was more about connections, than transfer.

“The connections to his site were six times more than an entire ’shared server’ accommodates,” said Elizabeth, “the customer was not willing to work with our staff to resolve the issue.”

Who knows who is telling the truth these days, but it does seem possible that GoDaddy was simply following procedure and shutting down a site that was crowding a shared server.
