AnyDVD cracks Blu-Ray (and HD-DVD) disc encryption
By Jonathan Schlaffer
For a while now it has been relatively easy, though illegal, to break the encryption on DVD discs. Work had been completed on breaking HD-DVD encryption but this is now pointless due to the death of that format. Blu-Ray has proved to be slightly more resilient but SlySoft claims to have broken it.
SlySoft, the makers of AnyDVD HD Edition claim that version of the program is capable of breaking the encryption included on most Blu-Ray discs.
In addition to being able to remove the encryption from HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs it will also allow you to watch the media without the use of an HDCP compliant monitor or video card. That may be perhaps the only legal use of the software.
It can remove BD+ copy protection and AACS encryption from Blu-Ray discs. While there may be uses from the program for its other features, most users will make use of the copy protection and encryption removal features.
Before doing so, I suggest that you review copyright law(s) for your respective area. Chances are that it’s illegal to remove copy and encryption protection from discs and most of all, to make a copy of the disc itself.
I have not verified the claims from SlySoft regarding the features of AnyDVD HD edition.

And once again, DRM is shown to be worthless. Makes all the users of Vista glad for the extra bloat, eh?

But of course. Of course it will be illegal to do much of anything useful with the digital media you pay for. One day, you might not get to just watch it unless you throw out your old gear and upgrade everything.
