Cavalier partners with Google to provide $50 “C2″ high-speed Internet

Cavalier partners with Google to provide $50 It’s not quite Google high-speed Internet but it’s as close as we’ve come today.  Cavalier has partnered with Google to provide a $50 per month Internet/home phone service.  Among the other features, it claims a dedicated connection to the Internet; as opposed to a "shared" connection that Comcast uses for its subscribers.

Usually with a Comcast connection, you may be sharing bandwidth with several of your neighbors and while most people wouldn’t care, there is some gain in speed to be had with a dedicated connection that Cavalier claims to provide with the new "C2" service.

It sure looks tempting, $50 per month nets "unlimited local and long distance calling" as well as "high-speed Internet."  Though, unless you are in a location that actually has the service, you may not be able to get the exact details on bandwidth or what other features it may offer.

However a few other sources say the service offers between 8Mbps and 15Mbps speed, color me skeptical.  I can neither confirm nor deny that is the case.

Unfortunately, it does not appear to offer any type of security applications if you were to sign up.  Comcast offers McAfee Internet Security for as long as you subscribe with them.  It would have been a nice bonus to see this from Cavalier as well.

It appears to be available in the states of VA, MD, PA, DE, NJ, MI, OH, GA, and DC.  Be forewarned, however, that it is not offered in all locations of those states so head over to GetC2 and see if it’s in your area before you cancel that Comcast subscription.

  2. Hallo Amt:

    Hi,
    great so in the New World you can get 15Mbps. Here in the Old World in Euroupe you can usually get between 16Mbpd and 25Mbps. :-)

    Jonathan, When I called Cavalier to get more info about ‘C2′ last week, I was told that “NetGardian” virus protection is included for free, though I don’t know how it compares to others. (also some kind of spam blocker)

    This is a reply to Hallo Amt….

    Okay understand that United States is basically the third largest country itself…and Europe (really just most of Western Europe) may have your 25mbps because Europe has many countries able to bankroll the installation of fiberoptics and blah blah blah….Also I wouldnt really be talking cuz Old World is still relativly slow because South Korea and Japan have internet connections faster than that….and you wanna know why…..cuz there smaller countries also and the infrastucture for fiber optics is much easier to facilitate…….

    Is there a special wireless for the c2 hookup? Or can you use any dsl wireless router?

    so,
    is this quality hi speed;
    or typical “you get what you pay for” crumby service, technical problems and such?

  7. GodaiNoBaka:

    @buffalo bill

    Probably the latter. I have Cav’s high speed internet, and while it is definitely faster than dial-up, and does offer a reliable, always-on connection, it does not reach anything close to the advertised speeds in my area. You’re talking basic DSL here, and bandwidth will vary depending upon how far from the CO you are.

    I’ve got the C2 service, and am in love with it so far. It’s faster than when I had Comcast, a LOT faster, and more reliable. Comcast was horrid with outages and various other problems, not to mention, every time a neighbor moved out or got their service shut off, the techs would cut mine too, causing me to have to deal with the long call queue for Comcast to get it back on. I called Cavalier on a Tuesday, and had my DSL modem by Fed Ex on Saturday, ready to go, with phone line and DSL already active.
