iPhone 2.0 arriving in June - Apple plans huge production push

It’s coming on for almost a year since the original Apple iPhone launched in the US, and what a year it has been for the company and the product. With that in mind, Apple are preparing for the launch of a new version of the iPhone, dubbed iPhone 2.0, which looks set for a June release.
I’m not a big fan of Apple, or the iPhone, not owning one, or having any desire to own one. But I can certainly see the appeal: it’s a fantastic looking gadget, and feels like something ahead of its time seeing as how far ahead of the competition it currently is.
A year on the the original launch, Apple are targeting a June release for the iPhone 2, the 3G enabled model which many people have been holding out for.
Apple already has their production plans in place for 2008, and according to CNN Money, it means 11 million iPhones are due to be made over the course of the year. This amount will be split between the existing 2.5G model, and the new 3G model.
The success of the iPhone shows no signs of wavering, with analysts predicting sales of 8 million for the year, and assuming the 3G version is equally well received as the original was last year, Apple could be looking at a huge increase in profits.
The new iPhone will operate on AT&T’s high speed network, which is expected to give mobile Internet users a big boost in speed and efficiency. It will also include more features from the box, including a GPS navigation system.
It’s also likely that once the iPhone 2 gets released, the older model will see a reasonable price cut, meaning the iPhone will become available to a whole new set of consumers who are more budget minded.
All of this spells good news for Apple, and bad news for almost every other company who have hopes of competing with them.
