Comcast has been accused by BitTorrent users and the FCC of throttling bandwidth to the site, and in many cases blocking BitTorrent altogether. When confronted in a lawsuit by the FCC, Comcast admitted they were using hacker technology to throttle or block BitTorrent. In the middle of the skirmish, Comcast has suddenly done an about face and begun to negotiate with BitTorrent on bandwidth.

It’s not quite Google high-speed Internet but it’s as close as we’ve come today. Cavalier has partnered with Google to provide a $50 per month Internet/home phone service. Among the other features, it claims a dedicated connection to the Internet; as opposed to a "shared" connection that Comcast uses for its subscribers.

Those who use PhotoShop on a regular basis usually purchase the full version of the program which is costly. There is also PhotoShop Express which is a lower cost version meant for "casual" users. Now there is a free online version of PhotoShop Express for those who wouldn’t even make use of those features.

Media and news company CNET just announced that it will eliminate 120 jobs, which is roughly 10% of its total staff, effective immediately. Supposedly it will help the company focus on long term growth, but there’s likely another, more relevant cause.

Motorola is about to undergo a major change in company structure, splitting itself in two parts. One part will concentrate on mobile devices like their large line of phones, and the other will concentrate on network infrastructure. This should toss the company into upheaval for months, not matter how well planned it is. This could have the most impact on the cell phone market.

In a move that could be aimed at the gPC, Intel is preparing its Atom (aka Diamondville) processors to power fanless desktops that should cost in the area between $199 and $250 for a “basic” configuration. Intel says these desktops are only to be used for basic tasks like viewing standard-definition DVDs, using office applications and browsing the web.

It must feel good to walk around with a 3G cell phone and be able to access the Internet from almost anywhere, anyplace and anytime; I wish I knew what it felt like because I don’t have one. For those that do, I’m sure the last thing on your mind is turning your handset into a WiFi router for (optionally) anyone and everyone else near you to use.

With the way that laptop batteries have a tendency to explode, overheat or catch on fire; it’s no wonder that a factory finally went up in flames. Dell and other laptop manufacturers are seeking other sources for battery production. LG Chem is the second largest battery manufacturer in South Korea and may affect up to 40% of shipments from Taiwan.
