Blizzard unveils new Bard hero class, launches Molten Core for consoles
Blizzard pleases its legion of fans with an unveiling of a new Hero class, to join the already announced Death Knights: hook em horns for the Bard class! This news will probably push sales of their Wrath of the Lich King to heights that will possibly surpass their record-breaking WoW:Burning Crusade expansion.
The description on the main Blizzard site will surely whet gamers’ appetites:
Armed with a trusty axe, killer riffs, and a ton of attitude, the guitar-wielding bard excels both as a solo performer and as part of a solid group lineup, able to front in roles as varied as his musical repertoire.
Obviously taking inspiration from popular console games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band, the new Hero class will appeal to wannabe air guitarists everywhere: “After ages spent singing of the heroic exploits of others, the bards of Azeroth are finally stepping into the spotlight on their own terms, proving once and for all that while just about anyone can pick up a sword or cast a spell, only a true hero can vanquish evil with the power of ROCK!”
New game mechanics will be introduced where would-be bards will use a resource system called “groove”. The Fret Bar will be launched to display a list of playable riffs, activated with a new guitar-based keyboard peripheral that will ship with Wrath of the Lich King (a special Frostmourne-themed axe will be sold separately).
Console gamers can also look forward to the new WoW: Molten Core version ported for them.
“Blizzard got its start in console gaming, and we’ve always been excited about returning to this arena,” stated Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “Additionally, we’ve wanted to reintroduce the 40-player raid dungeon experience for some time. With World of Warcraft: The Molten Core, we’re able to do both.”
Exciting features of World of Warcraft: The Molten Core:
- Single-player and multiplayer versions
- Nine different shapes (and possibly colors) representing the current World of Warcraft character classes. (Future expansion will include a tenth shape, representing the death knight hero class)
- Full-featured voice-chat system
- Fully customizable user interface that allows players to personalize their joystick button with several different functions
- A free attunement cartridge.
Blizzard’s World of Warcraft: The Molten Core Collector’s Edition will include tinted cellophane TV overlays, to give players more colour options. World of Warcraft: The Molten Core will initially be available for the Atari 2600 platform with plans to release more in the coming months.

I work for Blizzard in Europe, and although we released this information on 1st April, we wanted to see what the initial repsonse was, we were overwhealmed with e-mails, faxes, phone calls and 2 [Yup 2!] carrier pigeons. We have now thought about this seriously as a new class.

I would literally stop playing if this was a new class. I’m already leaning towards jumping ship and this would probably push me over. Here’s hoping its April fools.

I knew this was april fools from the moment I noticed the graphics on the Molten Core game, it was like playing pokemon all over again, And it would be too much of a fuss to get people to buy new Keyboards fitted with the GH3 notes, Although it would be fun since I play guitar hero and real guitar, I don’t think it would fit, good April fools joke Blizzard!
