Firefox 3 beta 5 comes closer to Safari 3.1 in Acid 3 test
By Jonathan Schlaffer
In this corner, Firefox 3 beta 5, weighing in at 7MB and in this corner, Safari 3.1 weighing in at 18.6MB; it’s time for the battle of the century folks, who will come out on top?
If you aren’t aware of what the Acid 3 test is, it is a test that determines how web standard complaint your browser is. Safari 3.1 has so far been the most compliant so far but Firefox 3 beta 5 is nipping at its heels.
Safari 3.1 scores a 75 out of 100 on the Acid 3 test, Firefox 3 beta 5 scores a 71. The previous (Firefox 3 beta 4) version scored a 68 on the Acid 3 test.
Four points may not be significant but if it can be pushed up just a little more, it will almost be fully compliant. The webkit build of Safari (18 March 2008) scored a 93 on the Acid 3 test.
Safari and Firefox are improving in both compliance and speed as time goes on, at least they’re not getting worse in any manner.
A (dis)honorable mention goes to IE7 which scores a pathetic 12 on the Acid 3 test, way to go Microsoft. Opera 9.26 doesn’t hold a candle to Safari 3.1 or Firefox 3 beta 5, either. If you aren’t using either of those browsers, it’s time to reconsider your entire life; okay, maybe just your browser of choice.

I think you failed to point out that Opera is the first browser to PASS the Acid3 test. While Opera 9.26 did not do well it compared to Firefox 3 Beta, I’d like to see how the current build of Firefox2 does. Comparing betas to betas Opera still takes the crown in compatibility.

Actually, Webkit now has a 100/100 on the Acid3 Test

Yeah Webkit not opera passed acid3.
But it still doesn’t render it smoothly.
Firefox beta five looks great.
