Opera Mini 4.1 beta out, promises faster speeds for mobile surfing
By Erna Mahyuni
Norwegian software company Opera, has released Opera Mini 4.1 beta for mobile devices. Promising to let users have the ‘full Web everywhere’, the version comes with features comparable to its desktop counterpart.
BlackBerry users with firmware older than version 4.2 won’t be able to use some features in the browser, though, because those older models don’t have JSR-75 support. Palm users must install JVM (Java Virtual machine) to install Opera Mini. Users have the option to either go to mini.opera.com/beta to download it direct to their phones or from operamini.com/beta.
Interesting features Opera Mini supports include the ability to attach files to webmail, downloading attachments as well as saving and viewing pages offline. The signed versions of Opera Mini allow automatic feedback about different phones but neither Palm nor BlackBerry phones can use these signed versions.
Opera also claims Opera Mini allows users to surf 50% faster. The way Opera speeds up viewing – Opera preprocesses webpages on a remote server before sending them to phones.
