Walmart refunding HD-DVD player purchases made on or after November 1

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Walmart refunding HD-DVD player purchases made on or after November 1Walmart is a bit late to the party behind Circuit City, Best Buy and Future Shop, all of which have announced HD-DVD refund, return and/or buy-back programs.  But, as they say, "better late than never."  Just to add a bit of irony to the whole thing, Walmart may have the best program of them all.

Taking just a bit more pity on you poor pitiful early adopters out there that purchased an HD-DVD player on or after November 1 of 2007, you will be able to return it to Walmart for a full refund provided you still have your original purchase reciept.  To spice things up a bit, you will not need the original packaging.

To take advantage of this rather generous offer, you must have purchased within the alloted time frame and return the player by April 30.

According to the Wallstreet Journal, those wishing to get rid of a player regradless of where it was purchased can get $148.50 for a Toshiba HD A2 unit originally priced at $1,000 and $2.70 each for HD-DVDs from Best Buy’s online trade-in program.

It’s a bit hard to fancy Walmart taking pity on Consumers more than the rest of the retailers but here we are and it is; I guess anything really is possible.
