Anonymous sponsor offers $10,000 prize in Windows server hacking competition

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Anonymous sponsor offers $10,000 prize in Windows server hacking competitionA long standing view is that Windows isn’t that hard to hack but you might have trouble convincing those that tried to hack into Vista during recent hacking competitions.  In the recent Pwn2own contest, the laptop with Vista was one of the more difficult challenges.

Another contest where the sponsor wishes to remain anonymous is offering up a $10,000 prize to someone who can hack their way into a Windows-based server.

Reader, “Chris” pointed us toward this tip over at Networkguard.net and told us,

“The last competition was 6,000 but no one won so they raised it to 10,000.  Windows in general is pretty easy to hack but the trick is that it is protected with a new system of some sort. I have not been able to figure out what it does but i do know I have come close.

By default source routing is turned on with microsoft server and is a huge vuliblity for every windwos box out there!

Joining the compeition are white hats that are CISSP’s and Black hats like mach 5 from the art6 underground group.”

The previous iterations of the contests were closed to the public but since no one has won from the private invitations, it is now open to anyone who wants to join in.

Interested?  Here are the rules,

“When:April 25th 7pm till 11pm PST
