Asus EeePC 900 owners get free longer lasting batter

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Asus EeePC 900 owners get free longer lasting batterCompanies make mistakes and some companies are even capable of doing the right thing.  After reports came in that some EeePC 900 owners in Hong Kong received models with lower capacity batteries, Asus has chalked it all up to a simple mistake and will be sending owners a complimentary larger capacity battery.

Granted, I can’t read the statement on Asus’s Hong Kong site but Engadget says the company thanks its customers for their business and they will be soon be sending out 5800mAh replacement batteries.  No word on how long those batteries will last time wise, though.

I’m also left wondering on what batteries Asus sent out with the EeePC 900s in the first place.  Hopefully, the company will have these problems addressed by the time the device ships to the US next month.

If you must have the EeePC 900 then sure buy one of the first models but it may pay to wait as later models may be endowed with Intel’s Atom processor which is probably a bit better than the Celeron Asus is using in these early units.

To each their own, I think I’m just going to wait, provided the ones with Atom processors actually make it to market; they are slightly more than just rumor right now but do make sense.

Ultraportables should always have 8-cell, high # of Joule options, because they really don’t add that much additional weight to an already light laptop. I hope they have a 6 or 8-cell option soon too.

I’m strarting to wonder if the Atom, is going to be this all singing & dancing wonder chip which everyone is hoping for. A german tech site has posted some benchmark results. ComputerBase is reporting that its 1.6GHz Atom chip fell slightly behind a 900MHz Celeron M chip on the Super PI benchmark.

      Is it worth waiting for?!?

Well the battery life of it is still to short. I would have hoped that they had integrated the atom processor. Than it would last longer.
