MySpace karaoke, the new feature from hell
By Erna Mahyuni
Annoy your family and roommates now with MySpace’s new feature – karaoke!
If you’re figuring the apocalypse is near, seriously, karaoke on the Web is nothing new. It is, as AP reported, new to MySpace.
News Corp.’s Fox Interactive bought the karaoke site kSolo.com a couple of years back, though probably no one quite predicted the purchase worming its way into a social networking site.
Users can upload their karaoke versions to their profile page to annoy friends and visitors alike. I predict soon an app that will play those annoying songs the way some MySpace songs play tunes from a user’s playlist. Imagine going to your kid brother’s profile and being assailed by his version of an angsty, or worse, screamy Linkin Park song.
American Idol judge wannabes can have fun going from page to page to rate recordings. Thankfully there’s no video yet, but unfortunately that might change soon. MySpace even claims it will have a split-screen duet option.
MySpace co-founder and president Tom Anderson claims that MySpace and karaoke are ‘a natural fit’.
“It is in part because music is so popular on our site,” said Anderson. “But also because karaoke is such a fun and social thing, which is what we’re about too. It’s not as much fun to go to karaoke alone, but when you do it through the Internet or on your MySpace page, then you can share it with people.”
If you want to start on the torture, just get a microphone and choose from between 2,000 and 3,000 songs now available. Procuring rights to these songs caused the major delay of the feature’s launch.

Only 3,000 songs? You are lucky that your kid brother doesn’t know Red Karaoke ( http://www.redkaraoke.es/ ) which has +13.000 karaoke songs, all of them for free, whithout recording nor country limits and WITH VIDEO.
