Sony fails to deliver free PS3s with 1080p Bravia HDTVs

For a limited time Sony was offering a free PS3 with certain Bravia HDTV models but now it seems the company may have some trouble actually delivering on that promise. A reader wrote in with some problems he has been having receiving his PS3.
Dear Blorge,
I would like to bring to your attention a matter that has happened to my grandfather of all people regarding Sonys Bravia tv offer. With every 1080p television sold they would give a free Playstation 3 away.
My grandad was already looking at a Sony 40" Bravia tv. The X series. by the way the TV is brilliant. The problem was with the playstation. He ordered the TV half way through December, and it took, after a month of delays might i add, a month to get here. We were told by sony we would have to wait for the TV to get here before we could order the playstation and it would then take 28 days. With much help by our local Retravision my grandad has been persistent on the issue ringing Sony asking how long it would take to get here. It is now the end of april and it still has not arrived. We have contacted Sony several times asking the question but with no definite answer or real apology. I am very angry as is my Grandad and i would like to know if you have had many other complaints like this. As Sony are not doing themselves any favors with this route. As our local Big W seems to be able to get as many as they need.

I took a quick look this morning and have been unable to confirm one way or the other if this has been a widespread problem or not. Perhaps some of our readers have advice for Sam, if you do, sound off in the comments.

I am in the same situation – been waiting months to receive the PS3. Sony recently told me the response to the offer was overwhelming resulting in delays.The next shipment of PS3’s earmarked for this promotion arrives mid May.You can call their hotline 1 800 882 172

Me and my boss both bought Sony TV’s under this promo in early Jan. I posted my barcode in as soon as I could, as I was eager to get my PS3. He waited another week.
About 25 days later, there was a PS3 in the mail for me, and about 28 days for my boss to receive his.
I can’t say it’s this easy for everyone, but there’s at least two success stories. Might suggest writing a letter to Sony’s PR department, or possibly to someone in their Promotions dept.

Well, I’m glad I’m one of the luckier ones. I bought my 46″ Bravia X Series on Boxing Day and got my PS3 at the end of January ‘08.
I suppose all these freebie offers are hit and miss affairs especially when it comes to extremely popular ones.
