Matt Damon cares about children, but could care less about his movie’s game
By Danny Mendez
Matt Damon has turned down an offer to become involved with the upcoming "The Bourne Conspiracy" game, which is based on the actor’s recent Bourne trilogy, but was it because his 3D model was too fat/ugly?
No, Damon’s concerned with your child, and the actor’s mom is likely proud. Both mother and son agree that violence should not be marketed to children in video games. Speculation would point to that as the reason why he didn’t lend his likeness to High Moon Studios for the violent game, says Multiplayer, so it probably wasn’t because of an inaccurate (or too accurate?) fat/ugly virtual Damon.
The two have sadly adopted the highly promoted idea that violence in video games desensitize and encourage violent behavior, but the theory has been largely criticized for assuming that all minors have the common sense of an frog. In our culture, it seems we’d like to blame everything but the parents of messed up kids for messing up those kids, but there’s tons properly raised kids around the world who play violent games and don’t have a problem with violence.
If video games do anything harmful to children, it wouldn’t have much to do with their minds and would have a lot to do with their weight. Violence in games is not what needs to be regulated in games, it’s the amount of play time children (and even many adults) are allowed (or allow themselves) to play. On second thought, we live in a free society that would never allow for such a thing, so who’s responsibility is it instead?
Just like a kid’s mental health, it’s a parents responsibility to properly raise that child, and if that kid grows up to become a problem for society, it’s not the fault of a game, movie, film, or the Internet. It’s the parent’s fault. Period.
Finally, as you can see in the pic of "The Bourne Conspiracy" above, that isn’t Matt Damon. Oh well, the game’s creators could care less, hoping to use the potential for a new Jason Bourne to give the game an edge.
