Dell’s uber gaming rigs – XPS 730 and 730 H2C available now
By Erna Mahyuni
Dell’s latest tweaked-out gaming rigs have officially gone on sale, namely the XPS 730 and the 730 H2C.
Engadget got the tip-off in February about the machines already being listed on Dell’s support site. They even rounded up reviews of the monster rigs.
Dell’s giving gamers two options – take the XPS 730 as-is or get the 730 H2C edition. What’s H2c? It’s Dell’s custom cooling solution originally jointly developed by Dell, Intel, Delphi and CoolIT. Basically, it’s a two-stage ceramic cooling solution, and this model has it redesigned to fit an ATX motherboard. What other extras do you get if you plump for the H2C? Two extra choices of color options apparently – Victory Red and Stealth Blue.
The specs are plenty souped up, the rigs coming with 2 graphic cards (if so desired) with the option to slot in one more. Currently only NVIDIA supports 3 cards running concurrently so you’re out of luck if you’re with the ATI camp.
Spec breakdown (Dell, of course, will allow you to custom config as desired):
- Support for up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM
- A wide variety of Intel CPUs from the Core 2 Duo to the Core 2 Duo Extreme (the Quad too, if you’re curious)
- Supports ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 (CrossFireX) or NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT (SLI) graphics chipsets,
- Able to install up to four hard drives at a time in various configurations
If you want to own one of these rigs, be aware they don’t come cheap. The XPS 730 starts at $3,999 and the 730 H2C at $4,999.
