Turbine’s Lord of the Rings Online turns one this May and is keeping its players happy with another free expansion, not to mention special anniversary deals.
Book 13: Doom of the Last King, its latest free content update has these goodies to add to the LOTRO world:
A new area, Forochel. It adds an ocean as well as new temperature-based landscape effects.
A new faction – the Lossoth
A new monster class, the Defiler
A new hobby system. First on the list is fishing!
New stories, quests and plots. Over 100 new quests for players to enjoy!
Former beta players as well as past and new players have new anniversary deals to entice them back into the game. Until June 1st, players can get a discount of $9.99 a month if they buy multiple month subscription plans. The lifetime membership plan that goes for $199 has also been reintroduced, so if you want a one time fee without the hassle of monthly billing, that could be the plan for you!
Besides celebrating their one year anniversary, perhaps Turbine is also taking precautions to keep fans excited as WoW’s new expansion, Wrath of the Lich King comes up as well as Warhammer and the Conan MMO. MMOs are big business nowadays and Turbine’s 200,000 subscriptions at launch for the LOTRO game isn’t quite as phenomenal as WOW’s but is nothing to scoff at either.
With a healthy U.S. player base, it’s not surprising that Turbine’s planning to push the game overseas as well. It might not prove a hit in China, what with the standard pricing plan being too pricey for gamers but in South Korea, the game might have a chance. South Korea is, after all, a PC gaming bastion, and if it does do well over there
Turbine is planning an official Asian launch soon, with South Korea (of course) being the first country on its list.
