GTA IV slays Halo 3 as first-week-sales king
By Danny Mendez
Grand Theft Auto IV has shattered Halo 3’s record setting first-week-sales numbers, far surpassing analysts’ expectations for the game’s success. The fourth installment of the crime-based franchise may soon turn out to be the industry’s most successful game, and Take Two will reap the rewards.
Industry analysts expected about five million copies to sell in the first fourteen days, but Take Two is expected to report a number of six million for the first seven days with 3.6 million sold on the first day, says the NY Times.
Cnet points out Halo 3 earned $300 million during its first week, giving the futuristic space epic the title of first-week-sales king… until GTA IV came on the scene. Taking advantage of a multi-platform release, Take Two’s game made $500 million during its first seven days.
If it’s not already, Grand Theft Auto IV could soon become the most successful video game of all time, and Take Two — which may soon get absorbed by a bigger company — will benefit significantly.
Electronic Arts has been attempting a hostile take-over of Take Two, but the company didn’t like EA’s takeover offer. With record setting sales numbers like this, Take Two may soon enter into talks with other companies about a takeover. EA or other companies eyeing the GTA IV franchise are now expected to make move, this time taking into consideration the real value of Take Two’s assets.

Hopefully that will keep EA’s grubby hands off the game. Last thing we want are yearly rehashes of the same game with 2 or 3 extra features to it.

oh, that’s fair; compare a game released on two consoles to one relased on only one. btw; how many halo3 copies were sold in 24 hours? the article didn’t say for accurate comparisons.

Yeah the fact that Halo 3 sold half and it was on 1 console is a joke actually. It just shows you how good Halo 3 is and that is only the first week. I would like to know how it compared to COD4

Halo 3 sold that decent because it was over hyped over advertised all by Microsoft with all know GTA destoy any record with out having to use advertising like Microsoft does to sell anything. Even if the game was only on PLAYSTATION 3 it will have outsold Halo 3. That’s a fact and Electronic Arts will never get Take Two Interactive that in this life time. Take two will never ever benefit from being owned by EA, you sound like EA fanboy who doesn’t know sh!t about gaming.

Laugh all you want but you know is %100 true Microsoft over hypes and over advertised everything they do like everything Xbox Zune Windows and the dead failure HD DVD from Toshiba. I only dust off my Xbox 360 to try the PS3 game GTA on Xbox 360 Live which has too many issues like frizzing and disconnecting players horrible really bad server… GTA will always be the best no matter what Halo ist just for Microsoft’s fanboy denial customer GTA is for the entire GLOBE aka world. LoL Xbox=FPS PS3=Every Genre
