Firefox 3 RC1 may be here but watch your plugins/addons
In case you’ve been living under a rock, you might have missed the news that Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 is now out. Those of you with Beta 5 probably got an update notification but it’s up to you whether or not to update, from my standpoint, it’s not worth it.
Firefox 3 RC1 does have several improvements over Beta 5 but keep in mind, it will probably break some of your plugins/add-ons just like every pre-release version of Firefox tends to do. Some of the add-ons I can live without but some of them I can’t.
One that I will not give up under any circumstances is SiteAdvisor which Firefox 3 RC1 happily tells you will work only it doesn’t. The status indicator still works but the Safe Search icons in your web searches do not; you get an empty box.
Something that has always bothered me about pre-releases of Firefox is that Mozilla will wait until the final version to fix add-on compatibility problems but in some cases you just have to wait for a new version of the add-on.
The same thing happened with Firefox 2.0, plugins were broken until the final versions was released which fixed (most) compatibility issues. Why can’t this be done before the final version, Mozilla?
I also didn’t have much luck rolling back to Beta 5 either. All I have to say is that it had better be fixed in the final version or I will not be a happy "Firefox camper."

Extension authors should keep up with compatibility for the new releases, and not otherwise. The Mozilla Foundation certainly does not have control over those extensions.

Strongly recommend WOT over SiteAdvisor.. As for extensions developers need a rc builds before most will start to develop for 3.5 etc.. 3.5 b99 is out today i only have a few addons left not compatible..
