WiFi equipped Canon digital camera busts thieves thanks to Eye-Fi

WiFi equipped Canon digital camera busts thieves thanks to Eye-Fi Always remember to pick up your belongings before leaving any place of business, be it a bank, a restaurant or an office.  One person forgot a camera at a restaurant which was later stolen.  Not to worry, this camera was equipped with an Eye-Fi memory card.

Alison Delauzon thought she had lost pictures of her baby son and vacation photos after her camera was stolen from a restaurant in Florida.  But, she had equipped her Canon digital camera with an Eye-Fi memory card.  The Eye-Fi memory card is a special memory card that is equipped with a WiFi chip and can equip almost any camera with WiFi connectivity.

According to Reuters when the thieves that had stolen the camera passed by an open WiFi network with the camera turned on, it connected and uploaded all the images stored on the memory card, including pictures of the thieves themselves.

Delauzon said,

"I opened up the Eye-Fi manager on the computer and, lo and behold, there are the guys that stole our cameras."

She did not press charges against the persons who stole the camera but since they worked at the restaurant and decided it would be a good idea to steal a customer’s camera, they were fired from their jobs.
