Judge sentences teens to a Youtube apology
The U.S. Justice system is a wonderful thing. There are times when judges really go the extra lengths to ensure that criminals receive the exact justice they need as penalties for their crimes. One of the most humorous and satisfying examples of this is a recent sentencing of two teenagers to posting a rather ingenious apology on Youtube for soda fragging a hapless Taco Bell drive-through worker.
Jessica Caponis, undoubtedly hating her existence for even having to be in a Taco Bell drive-through, fell victim to a rather immature yet recently popularized prank, according to USA Today. The two rude young fellows ordered food at the menu, then drove around to Caponis’ window. After she handed them their drinks and turned to get their food, the young men shouted “fire in the hole!” (an expression generally associated with tossing a fragmentation grenade) and pegged Caponis with a 32-ounce ice-filled soda.
To make things worse, the two young fools video recorded the entire experience and posted it on Youtube, probably so other immature young youths could live vicariously through the two’s “thrilling” escapade. Though the two might have thought the entire experience hysterical, neither Caponis nor the judge who convicted the two of battery and criminal mischief.
Minors generally think they’ll get out of stuff with a fine and maybe some community service, but the judge devised a better service to the community for the two to serve; the boys were recorded facedown on the hood of a police cruiser in handcuffs, and the video is being posted on their accounts to show that such actions won’t go unpunished.
Beyond the obvious embarrassment factor, I think that is a great way to demonstrate to other youths with similar inclinations that not only are immature escapades like that going to be punished, but that they directly affect other people. Maybe viewers don’t care about Jessica, but she probably already hated working the drive through enough before being hit with a soda. Why do that to someone else?
