Prolix: 3-2-1 BLAST OFF, boost productivity now
By Matt Jansen
Those are compelling words, especially for employers looking to increase the quantity of work employees output in a day. Prolix aims to serve. It’s a project initiated by the European Commission and its goal is to improve productivity though the appropriate application of learning in the workplace. Is it the end of meetings around the water cooler?
Prolix consistently emphasizes that its programs will make employees more effective at their jobs by providing the contextual knowledge necessary to make good business decisions. Its web site is full of similar “process language”, but diving underneath the stale exterior there are some gems of good information.
One example is Prolix’s intention to make learning a part of daily work tasks. The project aims to reduce “. . . the time to fill competency gaps and to build proficiency according to the business needs and daily work processes,” according to its web site.
The project focuses on preparedness for “complex situations” which seems to target a niche of learning outside traditional seminar-based training or programs available through the web.
Prolix also details out three “test bed” environments intended to demonstrate the effectiveness of its learning processes in less volatile environments. It chose government, educational publishing, and Telecom entities for its initial participants.
To administrate its training, Prolix offers a series of software applications that range from an Integrated Performance Monitor to Didactic Models, and Didactic Modeller and Tools.
Below is an example from one of the Prolix prototype documents:
Most of the complex language and comprehensive set of manuals revolves around a simple concept: for optimally effective employees, continued learning is a necessity.
