For anyone who has a problem with the touchscreen not working on the instinct, I suggest you get you a powerful blowdryer and steam it out. I grabbed my wife's and, being at the height of anger and desparation, I set the blowdryer to the highest heat and speed. I then proceeded to "steam clean" the front and back of the phone(cover off, battery out). Granted I did manage to damage the rug and a bit of the silver edging of the phone, BUT, I can use it as normal now. So that's a win in my book.

Well I'm glad I not the only one with the awful instinct that is supposed to be so great.I am on my third phone and all have had problems. I have been into the Sprint Store several times, they take it apart and put it back together, what the heck does that do, I'll tell you NOTHING!!!! I am waiting on my forth instinct, which is due to be here tomorrow, I have to go through another one since I have only had three replacement wtf, how many do I have to have that are defective before they realize it is a stupid phone. NOone can hear me and it locks up and turns off when ever it chooses, then not to mention it doesn't give me all my calls. All the time people say they call me and the phone never rings, I ahve gotten voice-mails that were left two days before. VERY FRUSTRATING. There solution from the customer support is oh your due to upgrade so why don't you just upgrade. Well if I didn't already pay for insurance on my phone and had to pay a deductible for the screwed up phone twice already I might of had the money to upgraded. I pay for insurance on my phone, so when does that come into play and cover anything never, because it is never sprints fault it always mine, I am the reason the lcd went out and I am the reason noone can me talk! Its all my fault! GOOD LUCK if you get this phone, save yourself the trouble and don't buy it.

Also, Tom's an asshole. It's not physics, it's suicide. If you can somehow muster up another strength to stay with this phone for two years, then you must be superhuman. I would commit suicide before that. Hell is worse than two years with this shit.

This phone is a fucking piece of shit. I would rather chop my balls off and make a smoothie out of them before I would look at it again. How can you have so many problems with one phone? It doesn't make sense to me. But I'm stuck with it now and it's so frustrating. The only thing that would make me happy about this phone is if I got struck by lightning and my phone exploded into a billion pieces and every one of those pieces went around the world destroying every one ever made thus ridding the world of it's very depressing existence. It's a piece of shit, and I don't like it.

I have had my Instinct for about a year or so and have had numerous problems, but the most often Ive had problems with it freezing as well as most of these other posts say. My story: about a couple weeks ago, I was showing a friend the pictures I had of my 4mo old daughter and as I was sliding through them, they started to show up as a black screen with a white circled exclamation point in the middle of the screen.. so I thought maybe the pics were having trouble loading. I tried to push the back button, the home button, the lock button, tried to turn it off... NOTHING. The phone was froze (as it often would be) so I took the back off and took out the battery, put it back together and turned it back on. (same as usual) Went back to my pictures to see if they would reload normal and still only a few of them were showing up and the others were the black screen.. so I just exited out and put the phone away for the time being. The next day I went to look at my pics again and they were ALL GONE! It said 'no images'!!!! VERY VERY UPSET about it. In the past I had asked about the phone freezing up so much and was just told that it's a "common problem for the phone to freeze like that and there is nothing they (sprint) can do about it. It's just one of the glitches that phone has." So I called sprint CS and was sent to tech support and they suggest I take it to a sprint repair shop.. I do and when they hooked it up and tried playing with it (because they said for me to get a new phone or anything the problem would have to happen while they had it)and of course NOTHING went wrong this time.. the guy went on you tube with it and it played perfect!! I was like wtf!? Because it has N E V E R played on you tube, it normally buffers forever! So then I ask about my pics they said the only way they can be recovered is if they're on the memory card or if I sent them as pic mail.. which of course they weren't. So again, sprint did nothing to even try and resolve the issue. In the end all the sprint people I talked to about my issues with the phone talk to me like I'm crazy and made up the fact my pictures literally dissapeared from my phone after the stupid thing froze.. and I lost well over 200 pics and vids of my daughter, my fiance, my puppy, my friends, my nephews.. my life basically. And I'll never get those back!!! All they had to say was 'we unterstand your frustration and are sorry for the inconvenience it has caused you.'

Where to begin?
-Movies show up under songs so when listening to songs, the next song will be an audio version of a movie.
-When generating playlists, EACH song you add requires 4 on-screen presses and 30 seconds in the "Please Wait" screen. Want a playlist with 100 songs? That'll be 400 presses and 3000 seconds of waiting.
-Newer web bookmarks no longer show up in the list when assigning "Favorites". Not sure when this stopped working but at least it worked long enough for me to add Google.
-Shuts off randomly when browsing internet.
-When entering information in Google search box, there's a roughly 33% chance that the information will be erased and you wil have to re-enter it. This can be a pain when having to type long search terms. I've had this happen up to 5 times in a row! Having to type the same sentences over and over with the awkward keyboard input can really drive one batty.
-Another rough number but I'd say close to 50% of YouTube videos won't play.
-When sending picture messages, ones that have been sent show up as pending. Their status doesn't change regardless of whether or not the person received the message.
-Also when sending picture messages, tiny pictures which used to show up next to the number in the message queue to let you know WHAT pictue you sent, apparently no longer work.
-I've had a message sent at 3:45 finally make it to my phone at 9:30. I guess I have no proof that this is a problem with the Instinct, but my instincts say it is.
-Camera works BADLY in low light situations. And by low light, I mean anytime it's not mainly sunny with no clouds outside.

Well that's all I can think of right now. One thing I should mention is I am Canadian with service through Bell Canada. Hopefully my American brethren are having more luck with this phone than I am.

I got the Instinct in Sept of 2008. That phone lasted me til Jan of this year. In Jan, I got an error using the music player. After taking it in to the store, they finally sent me a "new" Instinct. That 2nd Instinct lasted til earlier this month. The new problem now is the camera. It would not save the pictures I took or it would save it w/ a great big "!" sign. Then the next day, when I tried using the camera again, it said my memory card was not inserted. It WAS inserted. I never remove the memory card. I took it to the store & they reset everything. They also sync'd my music---but had to use a Blackberry because the Instinct did not recognize the action. (?) There was a song (all music was purchased via Sprint Music Store) that stopped the download of the songs when the Blackberry was trying to download them. Dropped off the Blackberry & they "fixed" everything. I went back to pick up my "fixed" Instinct. After having gone 15mins, I tried using the camera & it STILL wasn't working. I called Sprint, spent time on Chat w/ them & they couldn't figure out what was wrong so they sent me a new Instinct. I received the new Instinct yesterday.....and low & behold! the camera was STILL not working. I tried emailing myself a picture & it wasn't saving to the phone NOR the memory card, saying there wasn't enough memory on either the phone or the MC....even tho it showed that less than a third of memory was being used. I spent over an hour on the phone w/ Sprint "Advanced Tech" today & she wants me to "re-format" my SD card. So I am waiting to go home & try that. I used to love my Instinct....now it's giving me a headache & quickly going to become EXtinct with me. I've lost count of how much time I've spent w/ Sprint to resolve this issue. I love Sprint for the cust serv but I don't think that's enough to keep me with them this time.

I answered the phone and a loud squill, like a microphone testing, went through my ear. I couldnt hear anything. I am going to the doctor and they are trying to help the hearing loss. but not a good prognosis. anyone else had any type of this problem?
