Blackberrys, Blackberrys everwhere, and not a drop to drink…yet
By Triston McIntyre
The Blackberry world is abuzz concerning all the hot new handsets coming out in the upcoming months, from the release of the Curve Sunset to the Bold, and eventually the Thunder. Though none of RIMs upcoming handsets are available right now, it is getting so close many addicts can almost taste it.
For those of you just aching to get your hands on something new from RIM, the newest item that will be hitting the streets is the Blackberry Curve Sunset. Though code names like Bold and Thunder are associated with big advances in RIM hardware, you might be a little less than impressed with the Curve Sunset; the term Sunset is used to reference the sunset-like color and sheen that will don the Curve you know and love, and that alone.
The Curve Sunset was expected to hit T-Mobile retail locations this week, but, like many other RIM handsets, has been delayed. Though the reason behind this delay is still uncertain, the good news is it should be available beginning next week. No word yet as to pricing, but let’s hope it is reasonable, as the Curve Sunset is really like an early 2000s Chevy Malibu with 22-inch rims.
The much more exciting handset soon-to-be-released is the Blackberry Bold, heralded to be the most well-equipped and best-built Blackberry handset to date. Engadget Mobile reports that Aussies will be able to finally indulge their smartphone-lust sometime in September, as carrier Telstra plans on distributing the hot new business toy in that time frame. For state-side Crackberry addicts, rumor has it that T-Mobile will be making the Bold available come sometime either late in August or early in September. Hopefully RIM talked some sense into T-Mobile in regards to distributing the handset for a reasonable price.
The touchscreen handset, codenamed Thunder, is still in development, but the rumor mills are churning away. The new handset will hopefully see release sometime early 2009, but RIM should hold the phone as long as necessary so as to ensure things like haptic feedback are executed properly.
If you simply can’t wait for the Bold, go to your local T-Mobile retailers next week to pick up the Sunset and get your bling on. You’ll be all the talk before the executive meetings, I promise.
