Visual voicemail hits LG Voyager, joining the Samsung Instinct

Visual voicemail hits LG Voyager, joining the Samsung Instinct One of the coolest features of the iPhone was undoubtedly visual voicemail.  It was a new technology, and made it considerably easier to sift through, and organize voicemail messages.  Other device makers and carriers have taken notice, as the LG Voyager is the latest to offer the new voicemail technology, along with the recently introduced Samsung Instinct.

Verizon Wireless and the LG Voyager use almost the exact same tactics in deploying its version of visual voicemail.  According to CNet’s Crave, Each voice mail will have details, like the number or name of the caller, the day, date, and time of the message, the message length, and when the message will expire. You can then also choose to call back or text the contact. You can even choose to send a voice mail back to the person, as long as he or she is a Verizon Wireless customer.

If you already have an LG Voyager, you can simply download a free application to your device, configure a few basic settings, and you’re up and running.  You’ll have to go to Messaging on your handset, select the Visual Voice Mail link, launch it, enter your voice mail password, and then follow the prompts to subscribe to visual voice mail.  Don’t worry, it’s free.

I knew the first time I saw the iPhone’s visual voicemail that it would change the way voicemails are used on devices.  The whole idea had gotten rather antiquated, and a change was in order.  Startups like YouMail, which is a voicemail alternative that gives you a bevy of options, attempt at changing the methods but ultimately it took the intuitiveness of touch-screen devices to change the game.  Even though the technology would work on non-touch-screen devices, and will probably be adapted soon, it’s best suited for quick-reacting touch-screen devices like the LG Voyager.
