HTC Dream with Google’s Android spotted in questionable video
By Triston McIntyre
Now this is the kind of stuff that makes generally boring weekends in the gadget geek world worthwhile! The handset HTC intends to debut Google’s Android platform on, the Dream, seems to have been spotted in a blurry video shot by someone in dire need of some decongestants.
Though the video has been referenced already today by sites like Engadget Mobile and The Boy Genius Report, it seems that a trusty favorite of mine, TMoNews, broke the few seconds of blurry goodness. Just because I’m feeling friendly, I’ve attached the video link here for your viewing pleasure below.
Now it is worth noting that generally when a video like this surfaces, the poor sound quality (or nasally background noise), video quality and length tend to make us gadget geeks a bit skeptical of the video’s validity. However, I’m of the opinion in this case that the handset in question is actually the HTC Dream.
The video depicts a handset very similar to images of the elusive handset floating around the internet. What is surprising is the slide-out keyboard; I’m happily surprised, as I think the ideal fusion of business and innovation is a full touch screen with a slide-out keyboard.
However, the keys do resemble those of the unattractive T-Mobile Sidekick. That certainly won’t stop me, but such a similar keyboard could mean the phone in the video is a mockup; HTC isn’t known for building handsets with keyboards like that.
For the Android portion of the video, the OS looks good as always. I did notice that the OS did not react quickly to touch, and it seemed our nasally video shooter had to hold his (or her) finger on the screen for longer than I’d like for the handset to react.
What do you readers think? Real or fake? Are we all cool with the Sidekick keyboard or no?
