Verizon Wireless joins the visual voicemail party
By Triston McIntyre
Everyone has that list of people who call your cell phone you’d rather not talk to until some indefinite point in time, and those same people never fail to leave you voicemails. If you’re like me, and you don’t relish sifting through countless voicemails, you should be pleased to know that Verizon is adding a visual voicemail service to its lineup, and get this: it’s actually reasonably priced!
Yes, you read correctly. Verizon has officially launched its visual voicemail service, and its available for the acceptable price of $2.99 for storage of up to 40 voicemails per month. There’s only one small hitch — it’s only available on the Voyager at this point in time.
The Voyager isn’t a horrible phone by any means. I’m a little surprised none of the touch handsets like the Samsung Glide, LG Venus, or LG Dare are included, considering the Voyager is certainly not the most advanced handset in the lineup. But there really isn’t any reason Verizon shouldn’t have been able to roll out the service on literally every phone with data capabilities in the lineup, considering the carrier installs its own annoying operating system on every handset.
A wonderful alternative you might be interested in if you don’t have a Voyager or you’re using another carrier is Youmail. I’ve been using Youmail for about a month now, and it is a fantastic visual voicemail service. Youmail takes over for your carrier’s voicemail service and allows you to record your own greetings, and allows you to listen to your voicemails from your mobile phone or your computer.
It gets better. You can have Youmail send you a text message and email for every voicemail you receive, which will include caller information, call time, and call location. There’s a new beta service being tested right now that that even does message subscription so you can get the gist of what your voicemail is about.
That isn’t to say you shouldn’t sign up for Verizon’s visual voicemail service. Free is nice though, is it not?
