Logitech Audiohub boosts laptop sound

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Untitled Everyone knows that the sound on a laptop isn’t the best, even with the best built-in speakers.  Sure, you could connect Logitech G-51 speakers to your laptop but that kind of defeats the purpose.

Enter the Logitech Audio hub which is a “2.1” USB speaker system for laptops.  It’s primary purpose is for use with laptops but it could be used with your desktop as well.  If you’re going to pay $100 for speakers and your intention is to use them with a desktop, go with the X-540’s or G-51’s.

If you are a laptop user then the AudioHub is your best bet.  It is normally $100 but can currently be had for just $30 at CircuitCity and it is well worth this price.  It’s not going to blow away Bose speakers but it’s not going to empty your bank account either.

The AudioHub sounds good for a $100 set of speakers but considering you can get them for $30, they sound downright awesome at that price.  Why buy generic CyberAcoustics speakers at this price.

I’m not saying a lower price justifies a higher audio quality rating but consider what you’re getting for the price.  Stereo speakers with a sub-woofer which is far and above which most laptops have built-in and it sounds tons better.  What’s not to like?  Absolutely nothing.

Okay, there are a couple things.  It’s not a very portable set of speakers and they require to be plugged into an A/C outlet for power.  You will be tied to a desk (or couch… or bed, etc) while using them but the intention was not to be very portable.  I believe the intention was to superior audio quality in a fixed setting for laptops.  In that respect, the AudioHub excels.

If you can still get them for $30, do so while you can.  I do have some reservations about paying $100 for these.  There is no audio input so you cannot connect an iPod or other MP3 player and they require power but the sound quality is almost enough to justify it.
