Prank your friends with Obama Vice President text spoof

August 21, 2008

Prank your friends with Obama Vice President text spoof Obama’s fans supporters are legion. They hang on his every word as if he were the rock star of politics. They create songs about him, build fan clubs, dedicate FaceBook and MySpace pages to him. Not every Obama fan supporter is this rabid, but many are.

Obama recently declared he would gladly send a “personal” text message declaring his Vice Presidential choice out to anyone who signed up for the early notification plan. These rabid fans supporters have all been waiting with bated breath for the text announcing the chosen running mate (I freely admit I am one of these supporters, as getting a text message about this appeals to my inner geek).

Is getting a text message from Obama about his Vice Presidential candidate choice special? Not really, since you will be sharing the ‘unique’ opportunity with several hundred thousand other people. Also, since Obama posts to Twitter and is active all over the web, you know you’ll find out anyway within seconds of the announcement. The text just appeals to the geeks and the incredibly lazy, I suppose.

If you are one of the people who finds the whole concept silly, you too can find value in the Obama Vice Presidential running mate text. All you have to do is go to the web interface of the person you want to prank’s carrier (currently proven to work with Verizon). Enter 62262 in both the From and Reply To fields (be sure to use your real number in the Call Back field, but that stays private), enter the spoof message of your choice, and send.

The recipient of the text spoof may or may not find it as funny as you do since they’ve been waiting for the announcement for quite a while already, but you’ll be laughing at your sneaky joke. Is it mature to prank someone like this? No, but it’s an easy bit of fun. Just be sure they have a text plan; pranks are only funny if they don’t cost the person being pranked money.
