TiVo HD XL satisfies any appetite for HD video
By Dave Jeyes
Today TiVo is releasing its new HD XL model with 1 TB of data storage which equates to 150 hours of HD video. This model is the ultimate TiVo DVR companion for high end HD television home theaters.
The TiVo HD XL is available starting today on TiVo’s Web site and retails at $599.99. In addition to its massive storage capacity, the HD XL also boasts THX sound certification and the requisite HDMI cable. The included dual tuners mean that you can record one program while watching another.
Tivo worked closely with THX to create a compelling home theater experience. THX analyzed the video playback and performance of the new Tivo model to ensure top quality video playback. TiVo’s goal is to satisfy even the most discerning and voracious devourer of HD programming.
THX’s Chief AV Architect, Dr Michael Rudd is quoted as saying, “TiVo pioneered the DVR category, and they are maintaining that position with the new high performance, high capacity TiVo HD XL. As more consumers adopt high definition programming, they will expect their recorded content to reflect the same level of quality and consistency as the original broadcasts. With a Terabyte hard drive, the TiVo HD XL lets users enjoy more HD movies, sports and other programs in high definition than ever before, and THX certification ensures that the quality is always superb.”
This comes as the second major announcement from the DVR manufacturer this week. TiVo also revived its relationship with DirecTV which was long thought dead, much to the excitement of many DirecTV subscribers. The two companies are working together to build the next generation of the DirecTV TiVo DVR.
These announcements come as a welcome sign of life from TiVo. While the company is a leader in the DVR space and has a highly dedicated community base, it has been in a slump in terms of innovative product offering for the past few years. These moves should help to reinvigorate the passion of their dedicated fan base and help the company to keep momentum as HD television moves into the mainstream market.
