Get excited: HTC Touch Diamond, Pro debuting soon at Sprint, AT&T and Best Buy
By Triston McIntyre
It has been a long time coming, but the much-anticipated U.S. release of HTC’s newest handsets, the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro, is almost palpable. Though Sprint was the first kid on the block to announce its carrying of the HTC Touch Diamond, the CDMA carrier will also definitively be carrying the Touch Pro along with GSM carrier AT&T.
Engadget Mobile, amongst others, has been very good about monitoring all information pertaining to the U.S. release of HTC’s hottest new handsets, the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro. Though other countries have, as in most cases, received the hot handsets before we in the states can get said shiny toys in our respective paws, it has now been confirmed that Sprint will be releasing the Touch Diamond on September 14th for the respectable smartphone price of $249.99 (with 2-year contract activation and $100 mail-in rebate), while AT&T will be retailing the HTC Touch Pro as the “Fuze” sometime within the next few weeks.
It has been projected that Sprint will most likely release the qwerty-equipped version of the Touch Diamond (the Pro) shortly after releasing the Diamond, though no date has yet to be attached to that release.
For those of you who don’t care to go through normal carrier retail locations to acquire your gadgety goodness, Best Buy will be selling the Touch Diamond, completely unlocked and ready to go on the GSM carrier of your choice. Undoubtedly that will appeal to T-Mobile and AT&T fans, as neither carrier has shown the powerhouse Windows Mobile handset any love. Of course, purchasing an unlocked handset at a retailer like Best Buy without any contract renewals or mail-in rebates means you could be paying quite a bit out of pocket for the pleasure of using the Touch Diamond on one of the nation’s two largest GSM networks. I won’t judge you either way, though I can’t promise I won’t drool all over your glossy handset if you flash it before my eyes.
All things considered, HTC lovers have a lot to look forward to in the next month or so. As a T-Mobile user, I’m most excited about the impending release of HTC’s Dream (or G1), the handset that will first house Google’s Android mobile operating system. There are just too many gadgets and not enough money in the bank to get to them all.
