TuneUp gets your iTunes library firing on all cylinders

September 12, 2008

tuneup TuneUp is a plugin for iTunes that helps you clean up tags, download cover art, get news about bands and concert updates from one plugin. Why can’t Apple’s latest iTunes release or the new Genius Bar do that?

Managing and tagging a library of songs in iTunes can be a daunting task. If you input music from multiple sources, you can have any number of different naming schemes, tags or lack thereof. TuneUp is designed to help automate the time-consuming clean-up process so that you can enjoy finding and playing your music more easily.

No more sifting through confusing folders full of tracks labeled ‘unknown artist’ or ‘track 1.’ TuneUp will also find and download cover art automatically.

This iTunes companion isn’t just useful if your library is out of whack or you are missing tags and album art. The developers of TuneUp also went further by helping you stay current on news and events related to your music collection.

TuneUp includes a function that will scour the Internet to find concert announcements for the band you are listening to. You can even purchase tickets to upcoming right in the plugin window.

You can also use TuneUp’s enhanced now playing feature to get more updates about the band you’re playing. This tab will find relevant YouTube videos, recommendations, news and even band merchandise.

Managing your music library in iTunes can be a daunting task. Once you have imported your music collection from various sources, it is common to find that the songs aren’t labeled in any kind of uniform way if at all. Editing the song names and tags can be a monumental task even in a moderately sized library.

While it would be nice if Apple thought to include all of this functionality into iTunes itself, this download is a promising way to make up the gap. Now we can all get back to listening to music rather than spending hours managing our libraries.
