Nero Liquid TV/ Tivo PC: Coming to a living room near you

September 29, 2008

tivo-pc Tivo has teamed up with multimedia software developer Nero to create a PC version of its software called Nero Liquid TV/ Tivo PC. The software will extend the Tivo experience to users with a PC-based entertainment system in their homes.

The Tivo PC product uses the same menu system and remote that have become the benchmark for home DVR systems. Much like the set top boxes, Tivo PC will also allow users to export video to a laptop, iPod or Playstation Portable, as well as burn it to DVD. The software will also come with many of the features that Tivo users are accustomed to, such as the ability to get a Season Pass to record all episodes of a series, KidZone parental controls and WishList program search.

The software, which will be released on October 15, comes with a remote and television tuner card and remote for $199 US. Nero will also release a version for users that already have a tuner card in their PC for just $99 US. Tivo PC comes with a 1 year Tivo subscription that is renewable for $99 US per year.

Nero is a multimedia software developer that creates tools to manage video on the PC with features like ripping, burning, changing formats and sharing video and DVD. Prior to creating the Liquid TV/ Tivo PC software, Nero’s primary home theater software was called Media Home.

Tivo PC is part of the company’s International strategy for bringing the DVR to users outside the US, especially in Europe. Currently the only European customers that can have access to Tivo systems are in the UK.

Tivo PC runs on Windows XP Home, Media Center or Professional editions and will allow serious video enthusiasts to more easily expand their storage capacity. However the product may encounter stiff competition from Windows Media Center, which comes installed on most of these systems and requires no annual subscription.
