Norway is continuing its bid to force Apple to make iTunes songs playable on devices besides iPods. Consumer advocates are now planning to use the clout of Norway’s market council to make it happen.

Tivo has teamed up with multimedia software developer Nero to create a PC version of its software called Nero Liquid TV/ Tivo PC. The software will extend the Tivo experience to users with a PC-based entertainment system in their homes.

According to the Nielsen Mobile survey, Americans cell phone users are texting more than they’re making phone calls. The study looked at the second quarter of 2008 and found that US cell phone subscribers sent and received an average of 204 phone calls a month, as compared to an average of 357 text messages.

When Blu-ray beat HD DVD as the high-definition format of choice at the beginning of 2008, I was enthusiastic about the format and optimistic that it would prove to be successful. But over the few months, my viewpoint has changed dramatically, and I’m not alone in thinking that Blu-ray will ultimately fail to take off.

When Wal-Mart decided to enter the digital music market, it was seen as a great boon for consumers, mainly because the company undercut Apple iTunes. When it later decided to go DRM-free, consumers were even happier. But there’s now a problem, as Wal-Mart is shutting the original DRM server.

All these sites are meant to allow you to make new friends and contacts, as well as keep in touch with those you know in real life. For this to be possible, personal information is required, with your name, age, and location almost essential.

Windows Mobile 7 has been delayed, with no fixed date in sight. It’s most likely to be out only in 2010; not the best of times what with the iPhone and Android already making big mobile buzz right now.

Muxtape was one of the simplest but most effective ways of sharing and listening to new and old music on the Internet, at least until it got shut down by the RIAA back in August. It’s now coming back in a different format, but more interesting than that, the site’s founder, Justin Ouellette, has explained how and why Muxtape got canned in the first place. It seems that the RIAA are more like the Mafia in the way they go about things.

Sometimes if enough people demand what they want, companies will listen. The Chevy Volt is a perfect example of that concept in motion because GM had no idea the response would be so positive when it debuted the concept at the Detroit Auto Show in 2007. But, emboldened by that demand, GM is embracing risk and some open source concepts at the same time.

Not only is Land Rover producing a new hybrid but Jaguar Land Rover as the complete company is known, has quite a few other environmental initiatives up its metaphorical sleeve. Among the new technologies are an extended electric vehicle, and a new Flywheel Hybrid system.

Google’s head has angrily accused officials of ‘rigging’ tests which appear to show it’s impossible to carry internet signals over the TV airwaves without the risk of interfering with existing TV broadcasts. It comes as the Federal Communications Commission continues its bid to use frequencies cleared up by the switch to digital TV for a national emergency warning system.

In a recent patent filing, Google disclosed its vision for a ‘flexible communication system’ that allows users to roam across networks. If implemented, this system could bring market forces to bear on wireless carriers and create a major disruption in the wireless carrier business.
