Review: Prima cell phone style case for your Blackberry

October 22, 2008

Review: Prima cell phone style case for your Blackberry Prima makes lovely black leather cases for Blackberrys in several different styles.  Today I am reviewing what Prima calls the “Blackberry 8300 Curve Prima Select Premium Leather Cell Phone Style Case”.

As with the Prima Blackberry flip style case, the cell phone style case only comes in black.  This case has the same felt inner lining as the previously reviewed case and is made of the same fine leather.

Prima cell phone style left side  Prima’s cell phone style case is open face and hugs your Blackberry.  it has a strap over the top to hold the phone in the case and has cutouts along the sides for access to all of the buttons, speakers and plugs.

Unlike the flip style case, the cell phone case is not padded, nor does it provide much protection should you drop your blackberry.  When I say that this case is open face, I mean open face.  There is nothing between your Blackberry and whatever you might bump into or whatever it might fall on.

Prima cell phone style back The case has a cutout on the back for the camera so that you don’t have to remove the Blackberry from the case.  Again the cutout leaves ample room for the miniature mirror for self portraits.

A fully adjustable belt clip is built into this case.  You can have your Blackberry hang at any angle even upside down.  The belt clip has a quick release mechanism so that you can quickly remove your phone from your belt or purse strap without removing the clip.

Of all of Prima’s cases, this is my least favorite.  With my penchant for dropping my Blackberry, I would never choose this case.  My Blackberry would have a cracked screen in less than a week if I used this case.

Prima cell phone style front Another problem with this case is the fit.  The side opposite the snap closure, gapes and looks funny.  Granted I did not use this case long enough to see if it would mold itself to my Blackberry, but the initial trial implied that it wouldn’t.

One feature missing with this case that is included in the other Curve cases, is the magnetic closure.  Unlike other Prima cases for the Curve, this case will not put your Blackberry into sleep mode.

Although this would not be the case for me, it would probably fit my brother’s needs just fine.  He could clip it on and off his belt as needed and it wouldn’t need to be taken in or out of any pouch.  Since he missed the dropsy gene, protecting his phone from spills is not high on his list of priorities.

Prima has provided the same quality leather and style for this case.  If you are looking for a quality minimalist leather case, this would be it.

I would rate this case 3.5 out of 5.

Pros:

  • Beautiful leather
  • Secure snap to keep your Blackberry in the case
  • Quick release mechanism for removing the Blackberry from your the clip on your belt

Cons:

  • Minimal protection for your Blackberry
  • Odd fit

Price: $24.95
