Review: Prima’s lateral holster for your Blackberry

By Susan Wilson

Review: Prima's lateral holster for your Blackberry Many people prefer to place their cell phones or smartphones in a holster(or pouch) that they wear on their belt.  If you are one of those people, Prima has a couple of holsters for you.  Today we will be looking at the lateral holster.

Prima’s lateral holster holds the Blackberry 8700, 8300 series, and 8800 series smartphones horizontally on your belt.  The holster has an attractive and comfortable low profile on your belt.  It is one of the most attractive lateral cases that I have seen.

Prima lateral holster inside This case is, of course, made of very nice Italian black leather.  Rather than tightly hugging your smartphone, the holster allows you to quickly remove it from the case for answering or making calls.

The inside is black felt to softly house your Blackberry without scratching.  The elastic sides allow the case to hold different sizes of Blackberrys without damage to the smartphones or case.

Lateral Case belt clip Since this case comes with a non-removable belt clip, slipping this case into your pocket is not really an option.  However, with a fixed belt clip, you don’t have to worry about misplacing the detached clip.  For people who always wear their Blackberry on their hip, this is absolutely not a problem and probably a bonus.  The clip is not fixed in place so you can rotate your Blackberry to fit more comfortably.

Hard Case covered Blackberry in Lateral Case One nice thing about this particular case is that you can house your Blackberry in a protective silicone skin or a Lucite hard case (both also available from Prima) and still have it fit within the holster.  That way if you have butter fingers and drop your very expensive Blackberry as you take it out of the holster, it is still protected.

As with the other magnetic snap cases, when you put your Blackberry, with or without a hard case, in the holster and shut the flap, the Blackberry goes into sleep mode, preserving the battery.

I have used a vertical holster for my blackberry and found that I had to keep shifting it whenever I sat down or put my seatbelt on.  This holster doesn’t present the same problem.  Also, because it complete covers the Blackberry, you have to worry about a flashing message light drawing someone’s eye to your waist.

The vibrate function works great with this pouch so you don’t have to worry about missing a message or alarm alert.

Ratings wise, I would give this case a 4.5.
