True plastic recycling with Plastinum
Most people know that in order to recycle plastic, you have to look on the bottom of the plastic container and look for a number one or two in the tiny triangle. This generally means milk jugs and soda bottles. Everything else goes to the landfill.
Now a company called Plastinum Polymer Technologies has come up with a way to recycle more types of plastic than just milk jugs and soda bottles. Formerly non-recyclable household plastics, scrap automobile and electronic plastics, and post production waste plastics can now be made into new items to be used in various different settings.
The proprietary process known as Blendymer Technology, allows mixed plastics to be processed together to create new high quality plastic. This mysterious process (proprietary remember) has transformed plastic recycling into a way of lowering land fills and junk piles and not just paying lip service to the recycling concept.
What’s more, Plastinum is able to recycle mixed plastics at the same time rather than having to go through the costly and time consuming process of separating all the plastic into different categories.
The recycled plastics created during the Blendymer process are Infinymer SSL and Infinymer SML. Infinymer SSL is like polyolefin, one form of which poly-alpha-olefins are used as lubricants.
Infinymer SML is like polystyrene, which is a widely used plastic for all sorts of things. Infinymer SML can be poured into molds to create objects with fine detail. This type of plastic is is not very flexible and can be either transparent or dyed.
DVD and CD cases are made out of this type of plastic as are disposable plastic knives and forks. This is also the type of plastic from which Styrofoam coffee cups and packing materials are made.
As you can see, the items made from the two different types of Infinymer are the typical plastic products that you will find at Wal-Mart or Target. In other words the mass produced plastic products that everyone has some of around their house.
Because Plastinum makes all of these products possible without using any new petrochemicals, neither the availability nor the cost of oil are factors in the new products. Plastinum through its cheaper Blendymer technology can produce plastic to be used in a variety of processes cheaper than purchasing petrochemicals and without worrying about peak oil.
Not only does Plastinum allow for complete recycling of post and pre-consumer plastics but also provides independence from reliance on the cost or availability of oil. Who could ask for anything more.
