12Seconds, CurrentTV, FlixWagon, Digg, Twitter Work to Bring Citizen Journalism to Election Day

By Leslie Poston

12Seconds, CurrentTV, FlixWagon, Digg, Twitter Work to Bring Citizen Journalism to Election Day 12Seconds, CurrentTV and FlixWagon are teaming up on Election Day 2008 to bring microblogging and citizen journalism to the political process. 12Seconds recently teamed up with the BBC and CurrentTV to get the content on the 12Seconds network out to the masses. This furthers that concept with a political slant, encouraging people to document their election Day 2008 experience.

Users of FlixWagon can simply associate their FlixWagon account with 12Seconds, and on Election Day the first 12 seconds of any video they record will be sent out to the 12Seconds network. Not only is FlixWagon content going to be pushed to 12Seconds for the election, it is also going out to CurrentTV.

With bursts of news from 12Seconds and FlixWagon over the course of the election day, CurrentTV should be a bit more interesting than its usual content. Meanwhile, the existing partnership between the BBC, CurrentTV and 12Seconds continues, with 12Seconds pushing relevant content to both networks.

What makes the partnership with FlixWagon notable is that it is a mobil streaming video service (similar to Qik and others). This means that people are going to be ale to go to CurrentTV and 12Seconds to get their fix for relevant live television as it happens during this momentous election.

All day on Nov. 4, there will be a live feed activated on CurrentTV. This feed will be receiving video of the election from a variety of citizen journalists, and constantly updating their Web site with the information from the video feeds and other sources.

“We want to feel the pulse of the election so we’re asking our 12ers armed with mobile phones and webcams to document their experiences on Election Day,” says Sol Lipman, 12seconds Co-Founder.

As a side note, CurrentTV is also incorporating Twitter and Digg into its election night arsenal. In addition to its partnership with 12Seconds and FlixWagon it will be streaming live Tweets about the election and Digg headlines, offering a full interactive, user-driven, multimedia election experience for its watchers.

If you want to participate in this Election Day live streaming, citizen journalism extravaganza, all you need is a camcorder or a phone with video capabilities and an account on 12Seconds or FlixWagon to get started. Once you have that set up, you can stream your video from anywhere, whether you are recording your first vote or any vote shenanigans.
