Iambic is ready for the G1, Google phone, with GoogHelper and Tipper
By Susan Wilson
The Google phone isn’t even out yet and already smartphone software developers have applications ready to go. Yes, everyone knows that there will be a Google application center so that Google phone (G1) owners can quickly and easily find apps that they want to install. Some developers aren’t waiting for the app center to go live.
Iambic has been around since 1994. The company originally designed software for Palm OS devices. Its most famous program is Agendus which is a PIM (Personal Information Manager) replacement is not yet available for Android, the G1 operating system.
The company has since branched out to create a variety of software for Windows Mobile smartphones, Blackberrys, Symbian phones, Windows, and now Android. Software has expanded into new areas as well.
Both programs that are available for Android are already available for Palm OS, Windows Mobile, and Blackberry phones. GoogHelper makes online searches on your phone a breeze.
GoogHelper provides the typical space for filling in your search request but then adds buttons that allow you to specify what type of search you want to conduct. The buttons allow you to search the Web, mobile sites, images, shopping, news, stocks, maps, Gmail, groups, software, books, and Wikipedia quickly and easily. Simply hit escape to return to GoogHelper for your next search.
Tipper is exactly what it sounds like, a tip calculator. It allows you to put in how many ways the bill will be split, the total, and the percentage of the tip. Bingo, you get the amount each person (or couple) is to pay. Tipper also allows tip percentage calculations to be done on individual amounts as well. It is quick to pull up and easy to use without having to go through multiple screens to find the calculator and then to figure out the tip.
Both programs make using Android easier and both programs are cheap at $4.95 each when most programs are $9.95 and above.
When G1 finally hits the street, you’ll know where to get your first applications at Iambic.

Wow! That is quite a price to pay for apps that should be free. Maybe other developers will follow up with a generic free app. iPhone app store offers over 40 tip calculators most under $3.99 and 5 for free. The same goes for google search apps. FREE, my favorite 4 letter word.
