Tabbloid turns the feeds you read into a magazine

By Leslie Poston

If you are anything like me, you depend on a feed reader to get you through your busy day of technology and other news. Feeds help funnel news, but still ties you to your desk. Tabbloid plans to free your feeds you can read them like a magazine, which is much more digestible for many people.

It is fairly simple to use. All you have to do is sign up and start using Tabbloid’s Web based interface to enter your feeds. If you don’t want to use your existing feeds to try it out, Tabbloid offers a few preloaded categories you can choose from to get a feel for how it works, like Technology, Health, Environment, and more. For people new to the feed reader concept, these categories do have actual news sites you can use to “pre-load” your first feed reader experience.

After loading in your feeds you can customize how and when you want to receive them. The customization process is relatively easy with drop down menus and other forms to make using the site easier for you. Some programs like Snackr and Endo give your feeds on a continuing basis all day. Tabbloid lets you pick when it is convenient for you to read them, and set delivery time and destination accordingly.

What makes Tabbloid a little bit cooler than many feed readers is its delivery method. It sends you your feeds in a print-ready PDF file suitable for reading on the go in an iPod or other device, or for printing out and carrying with you like a magazine. Are you ready for the kicker? It’s a Hewlett Packard creation. It’s pretty slick looking, and if you aren’t an immediate refresh junkie like me but someone who wants to savor their news, this may be the quieter, more easily digestible solution you’ve been waiting for.
